Salmon Egg Extract
Marine-based bioactive elements are increasingly utilized in cosmeceuticals for their antioxidative and anti-aging properties. Salmon eggs are abundant in unsaturated fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals and are famous for promoting skin health. When human dermal fibroblasts are incubated with salmon egg extract, there is an upregulation in the expression of collagen type I genes and multiple oxidative genes, which supports its cosmetic usefulness as an antioxidant and anti-aging agent.
Hydrolyzed salmon roe proteins can rejuvenate photodamaged skin by destroying cell-cell adhesions when applied to the skin. A pilot study of 75 patients revealed that a topical exfoliative cream containing hydrolyzed roe proteins improved skin tone and evenness based on subjective and objective measures, compared with 4% glycolic acid. In a double-masked, randomized clinical trial involving 66 patients, topical treatment with salmon egg extract improved photoaging signs, including wrinkles (surface roughness), pigmentation (melanin index), redness (erythema index), and dryness, leading to an overall improvement in skin appearance. It is rich in omega-3, vitamins A, B, B6, and E, which help moisturize the skin, regenerate it, prevent skin aging, correct uneven skin tone, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
