
What is senescence cells? Aka cells death or Zoobie cells.
Cellular senescence is a stress response to harmful factors like genotoxic stress, oxidative stress, and DNA damage, leading to a lasting resistance to apoptosis. While this response is normal in young tissues, the accumulation of senescent cells over time negatively impacts crucial physiological functions. Senescence is a key hallmark of aging, contributing to age-related changes in skin, such as wrinkles and altered elastic fiber morphology. Senescent cells hinder the maintenance of healthy skin, prompting extensive research into targeting them in pharmacology. Anti-aging strategies are categorized as Senomorphic (aiming to suppress the senescence-associated secretory phenotype, or SASP) and Senolytic (focusing on the selective removal of senescent cells). Although senolytic therapy is a promising approach, its application in cosmetics remains limited, despite the skin being one of the first organs to reveal the presence of senescent cells, which can comprise up to 55% of fibroblasts and exhibit unique SASP characteristics related to skin aging and maintenance.
